Teen Comments on Books Eligible for 2007 & 2008Awards

Barnes, Jennifer Lynn. Tattoo Delacorte

Just so you know, I wouldn't usually pick up a book called 'Tattoo'. But this one intruged me, I mean, how many tattoos give you super powers? I liked this book as a whole, but there are a few thing that are bugging me; One, I am easily confused, so what is it with the strange voices coming out of Bailey's tattoo? Two, could we have a bit more grounding in the original Celtic legends? and three, what do seals have to do with anything? Other than that, 'Tattoo' was an okay book Nominate? no. 3Q. 3P. Alice 13

Denman, K. I. Mirror Image Orca Currents

I think this book would be a good book for people of all ages because it teaches how you might see life.
Nominate? yes. *I would like this book. 3Q. 3P. Tanner P., 13

Fields, Terri Holdup Roaring Brook Press It was an all right book but I think the different parts where the different people were explaining what happened to them could have been a little bit longer. I also didn t really like how it finished. I can tell you I really appreciate that I read it and I don t think it was a waist of my time. Nominate? no. 3Q. 3P. Dan F., 15

Fields, Terri Holdup Roaring Brook Press This was a good book, very short though. I liked how it told it from so many different points of view. I also like how it was not the traditional happy ending for everyone. I would recommend this book to all young adults. Nominate? yes.

Green, Tim. Football Genius HarperCollins

Looking at this book, you might think it doesn't seem like one a teenage girl would read and enjoy. You'd be wrong. I absolutely loved this book! The characters were believable, as was the plot. It may not fit the image of a all ages, everybody loves it, book, but it is. Troy and his friends make this story one of the best sports books I've read in a while. Nominate? yes. Can I have this? 4Q. 4P. Alice .13

Marsden, John Dead of Night

Scholastic (2006) It was a good book and it went well with the first book. It s definetly a page turner and makes you want to read the third book. Even if you hadn t read the first one, it would still be an interesting book. Five attempt to taker their town back over from the enemy soldiers. They plan and attack the army where it will hurt the most.
Nominate? yes.

Novik, Naomi. Throne of Jade Del Rey

As the second in the Temeraire series, I expected this book to be really interisting, but the first half of the book was really slow! as it started, Lawrence got sent to a transport ship to china. He was on the transport for half of the book! However, it got better and was really good at the end. I especially liked how familiar the chinese people were to any kind of dragons. I would recomend this book to anyone who has read His Majesty's Dragon because it helps to know a lot about the characters when you read this book. Nominate? yes.
4Q. 3P. Lewis G., 13

Porter, Tracey. Billy Creekmore. Joanna Cotler

I don't know whether it was the large type or the wonderful story, but I started and finished this book today. I loved it! The plot reminds me of Oliver Twist, without copying of course, with the evil orphanages, dark mines, and scam games. Through it all Billy is a completely loveable character, I was rooting for him the whole way! You can't help but like, this down on his luck orphan story teller. Nominate? yes. Can I have this one too? 4Q. 4P. Alice, 13
________ _______

The back of this book really caught my eye with the phrase "He is a motherless child, a coal miner, a circus star, a con artist, a seer, a hero, and, above all, a storyteller." This book reminds me of something Mark Twain, or Charles Dickens would write. Nominate? yes.

Schneider, Robyn. Better Than Yesterday. Delacorte

This was a pretty good book, definately for mature readers though. I did like it, 'Better Than Yesterday' really captures the friendships that tie us all together. I can't really say more without telling the whole story, so you'll have to read it yourself, as soon as I return it. Nominate? yes. 4Q. 4P. Alice.

Schneider, Robyn . Better Than Yesterday. Delacorte.  I would defenitly reccomend this book. It is a great peice of writing with a lot of good action. It is a bit mature, though, so I would only reccomend it for older kids. I enjoyed learning about Skylar and Charley's friendship and how it develops over time. Overall, a great read!. Nominate?  Yes. There is a typo on page 149, the seventh line, it says "I almost fell of the couch in suprise."I am pretty sure that the "of" is supposed to be off. Nominate? yes. 4Q. 4P. Shan, Darren. Slawter Little, Brown

This book was about Darren, Bill-e and Dervish. Dervish uses his magic powers to defeat demons. Again Shan writes an adventurous fantasy with amazing characters. Shan s descriptions make the book seem real.
Nominate? yes.

This book was a good book. I really liked the setting. The descriptions were excellent too. I would recommend this book to all young adults.

______ ____

It is a real page turner. This book should be read by a teenage group. It was a very good story but it could have explained more about the characters. Also it could have started off in a different place in the story. I think it started too late in the day to realize what was going on. Other than that, it was a good read.
Nominate? yes.
